Baby daddy

Mel B. also known as Melanie Brown, has named her daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, after the alleged father, Murpry Brown.

Melanie Brown, insists her daughter is the result of a short relationship with actor Eddie Murphy and has named the baby after him.

But Murphy has publicly questioned the idea and has demanded a DNA test to determine whether he is the father.

Diversity

My headlines suck, I lack creativity.

Anyway, as a project for PR 192 I had to find different media outlets of ethnic media in the Bay Area

Some of what i found:

Spanish
• El Mensajero- SF’s #1 Spanish newspaper
• El Observador- ElObservador.com online news site SF/bay area based
• Hispanic business.com – praises itself for being the #1 source of research for Hispanics—
• LatinBayArea- Research tool
• KRZZ 93.3 Spanish San Francisco Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc
• KSOL 98.9 Spanish hits. San Francisco Univision Communications, Inc.
• KSJO 92.3 Spanish-language music. San Jose Clear
• KDTV's "Noticias 14" at 6 p.m. as the most-watched newscast among Bay Area adults ages 18 to 49. It was the San Francisco station's best showing ever -- and the first time a Spanish-language newscast has topped all 6 p.m. local news programs for a major sweeps period in that age group.

Mandarin/ Cantonese

• Chinese school- Fremont Irvington
• Chinese- school Irvington
• Temple/ Chinese Church
• BAchinese- research/news tool (bay area chinese)
• AM 1400 Chinese/Korean news talk
• SingTao Daily - Chinese newspaper
• Taipei Report - Chinese newspaper
• Taiwan Daily News - Chinese newspaper
• World Journal - Chinese Newspaper
• Asia-Silicon Valley Connection (ASVC) - a non-profit organization that brings together community resources, business leaders and technology professionals to support the development and growth of entrepreneurship and leadership.

Vietnamese

• Vietnamese Daily newspaper- in San Jose
• Century mall- Story SJ
• Que Huong Vietnamese Radio- AM 1120
• KSJX AM 1500 little Saigon radio
• Vietnamese Church services, Saint John’s in Milpitas- newsletter
• Vietnamese school-

Chinese/vietnamese/ korean/ etc

• KTSF - The Face of the Bay Area – Television channel that broadcasts to over 1.4 million Asian-Americans throughout 10 Bay Area counties. In Vietnamese/Chinese/Japanese etc… Provides shows/ movies/ news
Middle Eastern

• Indybay- Independent Middle East Media Center (Palestinian-Israeli news source, online)
•

Surprisingly, the ethnic group(s) I have the most trouble finding is/are Middle Eastern/Indian. I just assumed with the war and other political issues, there would be alot more, especially since they hold such a large demographic in the Bay Area

Support!

Support Hayward Teachers!

They really do deserve it. Trust me, my friend is a sub at a Hayward school, and from teh stories I hear, they put up with a lot, and isn't our future worth it?

Lucky Duck.

Interestingly enough,

“A judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a Korean-American man accused of pulling a gun on two golfers, saying the Virginia Tech massacre could affect the man's rights to a fair trial.”

Well, isn’t he lucky? Unfortunately, as history has shown us, we, as a society, tend to prosecute others based on another actions of similar background, nationality, etc. (Does that make sense?) I guess what I mean is we went to form biased assumptions. A few friends and I were discussing the Virginia Tech shooting a few days ago, and my friend brought up a really good point. He asked, “weren’t you scared when news came out that the shooter was possibly Asian?” All of us pondered this for a minute, especially since most of us were Asian, and then one person spoke up and said yes it made them nervous, but they were not sure why, as if that person’s nationality or background would reflect poorly on their own character.

So, if they shooter was of your ethnic background, how would you react? Would you feel embarrassed or ashamed?

Side rant: Senior from S.Korea identified as shooter at Virginia Tech

Someone tell me why they had to include his Race/ Ethnicity/ Origin of Birth.. whatever, when he had lived in the states the majority of his life?

Another story also comes to mind,

I actually felt really bad for the shooter for a few reasons—based on what I read I felt bad that he was subjected to teasing, even though we all go through that, and that he was basically an outcast and troubled. I also felt bad for the family, just like how the victims and their families deserve some respect; I feel that the shooters family does too. Cause in reality, no parent would want their child to commit such a heinous crime.

Anyway, back to my story. When I was still at a JC there was this boy that was slightly off. He was a loner, acted kind of strange, and I noticed people tended to tease him occasionally. He would often sit at our table at lunch, and even got our email addresses from a class mailing list. I always tried to be fairly kind. One day a friend of mine asked why, and I responded “because everyone needs a friend” and secretly I thought about the crazies that shoot up schools, and then I told him that out loud.

After I told him my theory, he told me about an incident at his school about a similar male class mate who went crazy and threatenedd to kill the one person that was nice to him.

Damn that sucks.

A quest for length...

I remember watching an 18-minute short called "The Quest For Length." Starring Rog and directed by Geney Boy, it made it into Sundance where it created quite a lot of buzz - which wasn't too surprising considering the subject matter. If you're wondering what it's about, the title should be a hint ... a hard, erect hint.

The ending is a bit disturbing, but it is definately funny and really plays on the stereotype of size and if it matters. With shows like sex in the city bringing these once taboo subjects to the fore-front I just found it oddly entertaining and relevant. Women can openly talk about breast size and other body parts, but for men it stills seems difficult to talk about 'length' or any part of the body. Body image, for men, always is very hush hush, and this video isn't hush hush about anything.

You are what you eat

"We know that the foods we eat affect the body. But they may have even more of an influence on how the brain works -- it's general tone and level of energy and how it handles its tasks. Mood, motivation and mental performance are powerfully influenced by diet."

Brain food!

Very logical article! Generally when I eat fast food i feel more tired and unmotivated. I wanted to post this because I've been reading alot on 2 things: #1 Americans are too fatty or #2. Americans have an obession with being skinny. So conflicting isn't it? I just saw a commercial where it shows old baby home videos and in the videos the kid is eatting junk food. At the end of the commercial it goes on to say all that junk food results in dibeties.

Earlier I read an article on how Kate Winslet and other actresses are trying to stop the obession with girls trying to be a size 0.

It is so hard, the media is trying is trying to define how thin we are suposed to be and how not to get too fat, and too many people especially girls are taking it to the extreme.

True Heros.

Let's pray.

"Three members of a San Francisco family missing for more than a week were found alive Monday along a snowy, treacherous roadway in southwestern Oregon, police said. A search continued for the father."

With the holiday's approaching, this story is a true personal interest one, of self sacrifice.

Unfortunatly, Oregan police found the father only a half mile away deceased. During the holiday you notice that the media tends to hover over more and more over personal interest stories, whether it be sad or happy.

This morning I was driving to school and I heard a radio program on 106.5, asking for donations for a family whos child had cancer. Listeners were calling and flooding the station with donations.

It is so tragic that we are the most giving during the holidays and we as a society do not give more, year around. Although there are always exceptions, Americans generally dig deeper during the holidays. Perhaps the media has embedded this notion in us. There is a saying, tis the season of giving, but why doesnt the media say, it's always the season of giving? Once December hit, news of war seemed to disapear and heart felt stories of saving kittens prevailed. We need to change societies norms.

Spain says no fatties!

SPAIN SAYS NO!

"MADRID, Spain - Burger King should yank an ad campaign for its monster XXL burger — the caloric equivalent of eating 10 fried eggs — because it violates a Spanish initiative against obesity, the Health Ministry said Thursday."

*Can we note that Madrid is also the same country that imposed a weight limit on models at their last fashion show.*

They asked the fast-food chain to abandon the campaign because the commercials go against an agreement signed by the Spanish Federation of Hoteliers and Restaurateurs, which states that members will not promote large servings of food.

Each sandwich has an average of 971 calories and 25 grams of saturated fat (the numbers could be even higher if condiments like ketchup and mayonnaise were added to the burgers).

It sure looks good doesn't it?

After writing about our nation coming out with deep fried coke, I was surprised to see Madrid ban this hefty burger, especially since, I think, it would be well received by this nation. However, Madrid was also the country that imposed weight limits on their models. It just ties into my last post, different countries value different things. Like China who wants pretty girls and rich men to marry, maybe Spain doesn't want an obese nation, and maybe the US does want an obese nation.

Is the government suposed to get involved in this? Obviously in Spain there is more governement control, but if this were to happen in the US, a nation that promotes business and the growth of the economy, would the governement really even care? I doubt it. Fast food here is known for its large portions and cheap prices, there would be a major uproar if there was actually an agreement businesses would sign, in the US, stating that they would not promote large portions of food, especially those that promote obesity.

Our values are so different, and so is limitations of government involvment.

China, you're a player hater.

China is hatin' on the Ugly and the poor. Bastards.

A matchmaking love boat cruise open only to male millionaires and "good-looking and desirable" women is slated to set sail later this month, a state-run Chinese newspaper said Tuesday.

Men on the cruise scheduled to go along Shanghai's Huangpu River must be worth at least 2 million yuan ($250,000), the China Daily quoted organizer Xu Tianli as saying.

More than 20 men had signed up for the Nov. 25 cruise. Fewer than 30 of the 1,000 woman who applied were accepted.

Only those who were attractive in every category can take part in this event
Xu said, without giving the specific criteria interested female applicants .

OKAY! So:
#1. Why so they men have to have money and not the women?

Does that not play into stereotypes of women are only after money (aka women are Golddiggers)

#2. Is $250,000 really that much money?

In the US no, but in China that means you must live comfortably.

#3. How do you define beauty for women?

Since beauty varies according to each individual person, what is the criteria of beauty? If they are gonig to be picky, there is not going to be enough women on the cruise, or what if the kind of women on the cruise, are not the women the rich men want?

Horrid. Not only is this discriminate againt the poor and the ugly/ slightly over weight, it also discriminates against the young and the old (Since there are less younger established men, and few 'beautiful' older women). This cruise is wrong on so many levels. It would be less controversal if they had just set a high ticket price to get teh desired target market, instead they set critera in which they are unable to set standards for. China, you hater.

Vote or die!

I cannot tell you how much I love Southpark! Talk about timeliness and relevance! So, on tonights episode of Southpark, The school the boys attend are holding an election for a new mascot- a turd sandwich or a douche.

Kyle chooses the turd sandwich while Cartman chooses the douche. Families are being torn apart, however Stan refuses to vote ; not because Stan does not believe in voting but because "there's no point voting for a douche or a turd."

VERY DEEP, I LOVE IT. Why vote for the sake of voting- if anything we should vote because we believe in what the canidate stands for. Good job.

Now, for your viewing pleasure, enjoy P. Diddy's VOTE OR DIE music video. haha!

The Fremont A's?

Obviously, sports play a huge part in American culture. Sports provide a major source of advertisement and a strange sense of nationalism. How many people do you know dress up head to toe in their team's colors? How many people dress up head to toe in or nations colors?

So, what happens when the team of your choice, decides to relocate? How does this effect you? Apparently, the Oakland A's may be relocating to Fremont. Yes, Fremont Now, I am from Fremont, and let me say, it is a very boring place. The most exciting thing that has happened in Fremont was that the Costco expanded and Walmart opened. Another funny thing is that Cisco Systems, a company my dad works for, is assisting in this relocation. (Small world huh?) So, what I am pondering is what is this going to do to #1 Oakland and #2 Fremont. Am I going to be more enticed and proud to be a Fremont citizen because we now have a baseball team? I think not? Is this a way for Fremont to attract more people with the lure of sport, beer, and and cracker jack ads? I think so. So, now my next question is, what will Oakland have, other then an empty stadium? With advertisers pulling away funding from Oakland, and with the lost of public funds, like the baseball games- which funds for workers- it will effect the city and possibly worsen the lower income side of the community. Damn, I hope this doesn't cause a Fremont - Oakland rift compariable to the Westside - Eastside feud. Do I need to be scared of drive by's from disgruntaled A's fans dressed in green and gold?
